    Default Ironhead @ Gatorland

Visited Gatorland this weekend. Even though it isn't full breeding season yet, the opportunities are vast and it's well worth the trip.

Recently learned that the Woodstork had several nicknames which include "flinthead", "Spanish buzzard", "gourdhead" and "ironhead". These names come from the appearance of the bird's bald head. Another nickname for the wood stork is "preacher" which comes from the dignified style of the bird when resting.

Great composition, exposure control, details and BG. If anything, maybe a tad more space at the top.

    Marina,

Great job. One thing you can tell with wood storks is that when the head is not sharp, the bald patterns really show it. Here you have critical sharpness and the detail is great. Well done.

Congrats on a fine image Marina! Everything works for me: exposure, sharpness, pose, BG, and crop.

I wonder what Down Under means...!

Great job Marina. I have encountered hundreds of these birds, but I think I have never seen one so close!
    Love this portrait.

Australia = Down Under; it is an Aussie expression used to describe our continent, which is Down Under, at the bottom of the world. :)
