While at Wako yesterday for Heron action, I packed the IR accidently instead of my 40d. I have my 1d Mark II aimed at the nest and was missing out on some flight shots so I figured, what the heck. Exposure was real tricky, but I got a workable image ...

    Hi Michael,
I like the capture...I would prefer a tad on the lighter side, it seems to be a little under exposed...and perhaps adjust the contrast a little...suggestion; I would crop into a slightly tighter pano by taking half of the tree line below, and 1/4 from the top...this will zero in more on your subject's activity. also might want to add a little more canvas to the right of the frame, to give him more flight space...looking forward to your next one...

It was underexposed and tough to figure out the exposure. As a rule for landscape, I expose in manual at +2 so trying to figure out exposure for flight is touch. I guess I should go +3 on blue sky for IR flight.....

Neat idea, Michael! I agree with Gus's comments but I'd do a pano of only the bird and his nesting material - I'd leave it long and clean. It's just spectacular and doesn't really need all the other stuff.

Do give it a lighten/contrast adjust...especially near the eye so we can really see his glance.

there's also pancake lenses; I know pentax has them; but does not seem Nikon or Canon have them.
