Uncle Gus has inspired me to post some hummers. This little one was captured at Mt. Pinos in the late afternoon sun of August.

    400D, EF70-200mm @ 200mm, ISO400 1/500 @ f/5.6, partial (center-weighted) metering and auto WB, converted with DPP and finalized in CS3

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Kerry,
A very nice capture indeed...I like the composition and image...the color rendition and sharp details on the bird are superb. the multi colored tones and hues compliment your subject very well...the bird is placed just right in frame...I like this image very much...my suggestion would be to modify the perch, because its a tad too powerful for the little guy...I modified the perch and increased saturation and boosted the contrast level just slightly...also did a light pass of noise reduction...see if this presents best to you...

Wow! Thanks for the repost Gus. That's really nice. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the best crop for this shot, but you got it just right. Here is a different crop that I had tried. What I was struggling with was the large branch filling more of the frame when I opened up space to the left, so I tried a vertical but it feels too cramped to me. I like yours a lot...

Actually I like this alternate composition too. The only thing that I would modify on this one Kerry; is to clone out the third leg of the branch thats on the lower left side of the frame...:)

    Hi Kerry:

Artistic license on the perch. . . old perch cloned out. Your shot of the little Anna's was right on, looks like he came right out of my garden. know how tough it is to get a shot off in the second they light on a limb, and have missed many shots. You did well.

    Uncle Gus

BTW: Used to be a neighbour of yours in Northridge, but after the first quake in Feb `71, I moved back to the beach

I like the perch removal but would mention in the post it was cloned out !! Does clean it up and makes the bird show better !!!

Your absolutely right Al, I mentioned Artistic license, but neglected to add that perch was cloned out ~ remedied. Brain drain, and a Green Valley moment :D

BTW: What do they call a waterbed in Green Valley ~ "The dead sea." :D
