    Default Green Cay Egret

This is my first post and I figured I could get some good tips from the pros on photographic skills. I don't use CS3 very much and limit myself to cropping, a little shadows and highlights, a little hue and saturation, some contrast, rubber stamp stuff, and sharpening, so I would be almost clueless to anything beyond that...sorry. I have been reading this section for awhile now and I have learned a lot like the importance of eye contact, having the subject 'entering' the image instead of leaving it, and general subject positioning...so thanks for that! I am mainly interested in my subject matter, BG, lighting, positioning, and camera settings so any helpful hints would be great...especially on the settings end of things! Anything beyond those things would be great too as I am always into learning how to try and better my photography.

So here goes my first image...

Welcome to BPN Matt! You did great with exposure and sharpness. Eye contact is perfect. I like the dangling feet, water droplets, and even the shadow of the bird's head on the far wing. I'd like a little more room up top. I would probably remove the dark patch of water touching the bird's head. When you post images it helps if you include tech specs (I've edited your post to include some). Also, your image is larger than the maximum dimension on BPN; we allow up to 1024 pixels wide, 800 pixels tall, and 200 KB in size. Look forward to seeing more of your images!

Wow and welcome. This image is stunning. I love the shadow of the head on the wing. The EXP is perfect with great detail in the whites. And the feet and water droplets are killer. Love the pose, head angle, and wing positions. Pretty good results with a camera that supposedly does not focus on moving subjects....

    Hi Matt and welcome.

As said, very nice take off image. Love the wings and sharpness. I would like to see less noise in the BG (background).

    Keep them coming!

Thanks for the help Doug and advice! Hey Arthur, I live in Palm Beach Florida so it's a great time of year for me to practice on both coasts and around Kissimmee. I don't really know how to make the background less grainy if that's the noise you are talking about Maxis...any suggestions? Thanks for the compliments and all advice!

    Hi,

You can try Noise Ninja to remove noise from your images. I use it all the time with great results.
