    Default The Coot Scoot

Got this image from Jim Neiger's boat a couple of weeks ago. There were a ton of Coots on the lake.

    Canon 50D, 500mm + 1.4x, f/5.6, 1/2500, ISO 500, no flash, hand held

Really nice shot Doug, I like the trail of water drops behind the bird.
Good action, especially considering it's hand-held from a boat.

    Doug,
For the first time I am seeing such an image of a coot. I have always wanted to photograph such a scene, but they are always far away. If you can capture a full frame image of coot chasing or being chased, as it runs very fast, it speaks volumes about the AF capabilities of the Camera and the capability of the chip an inch behind the camera. :-)

The whites are controlled well. The 1/2500 shutter speed has helped. And as always, your handholding is top notch. Great work.

    Cheers,
    Sabyasachi

Hey Doug, Well done as above. Was this with the 500 and the 1.4X or does Canon make a 700 that I am not aware of? Love the feet too.

Great pose and light, I like the pose because is not the typical ¨running on water¨ pose, it has more action, more impact and much more strenght, exposure is great and comp is as perfect as the rest of the image! Congratulations!

Since you were kind enough to loan me the 800, I thought I would reciprocate and loan you my 700 f/5.6. ;)
