This is where I take most of my photographs. The sign marks the entrance to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands in Huntington Beach, CA, which is a very popular place with photographers, bird watchers, walkers, etc. -- http://www.bolsachica.org/. The photo was taken on a cold, cloudy morning five days ago. I made no crop, and almost no other changes. I did emphasize the clouds a bit, but decided to leave the blacks "solid" and to leave the gull without "definition." Does it work? Suggestions, please.

I like the sky Wendell, but I think the shot might have been more effective if the light had been shining on the sign and the bird.

i think it's just underexposed. there's a heavy blue color cast on it too. i like the low perspective with the sky as the bg. and the bird adds a nice touch too!!

    Hi Jackie and Harold:
Really 'preciate your input . . . Two votes for more light . . . Well, I'll be sure to give that a try on my next visit.

    Hi Wendell,
A nice composition, but must say that the image is under exposed, you can adjust this in post processing if you like; but I feel that you should re take it again on your next visit...

    Hi Gus:
One more vote . . . I kinda like the mood of it, but see that others don't, so obviously it does not "work".

    Hi Wendell,
If your objective was the overall mood (under exposed, a feeling of early morning light)of the composition, perhaps it would have worked leaving the image alone and not working on the sky and clouds. being under exposed on purpose is a good thing too; depending on what type of message you want to get across. Go back to the original file and repost the way it is; let me see it...:)

Another vote for the last one !!!

I think frontal lighting would be best in this situation ... one interesting possibility is fill flash !!! Always experiment !!!!
