    Falklands '08

    Heading back to the Falklands on the 29th with a group.
    I will never forget watching and photographing this king penguin chick hatch last year. The howling wind made it extremely difficult to keep the equipment steady, and we were all shaking from the wind chill before long.

    1D Mark III, 300IS f/2.8 w/ 2x,
    Manual, incident, 1/500 @ f/5.6, ISO 800
    Post-production- ARC 5.2, CS4

    Love the crop in this one Chas and gorgeous color, detail and action. I can not help but suffer a bit of envy ;)

    If Judy Lynn suffers a little envy then I guess I envy you even more. :) Great opportunity and well done. I like the interaction but the open bill of the chick puts it over the top for me. Enjoy your trip, I'd love to go there sometime.

    Yes, the combination of black and yellow in this species is outstanding.
    Lovely moment captured! Great light and details.

    PS: I would also like to go to Falklands some day!

    a beautifully colored and balanced image.....those penguins have such strong bonds and devotion to parenthood. Tight crop works so well here IMO
