Leaving my local hardware store I saw this chap on the fence next to the highway. He was completely unconcerned by my presence and allowed me to get my camera out and snap several frames.

I was very happy with the body angle and his intense stare. He seems to be posing for me :)

Is this too much fence? I also debated dodging the background a bit?

Hi Gary - great looking bird - nicely spotted. HA and eye contact is good. Please also post your shooting info as it will help everyone help you.

Feels very tight - IMHO needs more space top and bottom - I would also try a litte shadow/highlight to lighten up the back area a little. Sharpen the eye a tad and it will be more prominent.
    BG is fine with me.

    looking forward to more.

    Hi Garry,
Very nice shot and Lance's repost with more room and a SH adjustment makes it look even better. Might sharpen and saturate the eye a bit.

Great looking bird Garry and excellent re post by Gus !!! Really good PS work !!

Remember to get on sun angle, the bird is sort of dark on the right side and opening up always introduces noise. Would take one for record then move to sun angle for the next !!!

Garry...Nice subject and pose. I would not crop anymore off the fence. I like Lance's repost since he brought out more detail in the chest and lightened some of the darker feathers.....

Lance, you illustrated that very well, I see with the bird positioned more into the frame how much better this works. The increase in detail on the front is a huge plus, thank you. Alfred, I now see that darkness. In time no doubt I will be less hasty to grab the shot and will get better positioned.

It was taken with my 50D and 400mm f5.6
