The Carolina wren has such an awesome song - it can be heard from so far away and it is so distinctive - so I was pleased to get a shot of one making such a call. They are deceptive when you are in their habitat because they sound much closer than they are...although it is nice and directional so you can usually move towards where the sound is coming from.

    Excellent capture Rob,
I like this allot...the bird is placed just right in frame...the sharp details and color rendition are superb. the head angle and crystal clear eye are dead on...I like the unusual perch, talking about being different...:Dmy only suggestion to taking this over the top, is to diffuse or tone down the greens in the background, and blur it a tad more, especially on the lower right hand side, where the vertical brown oof blotch is located...aside from this, you did very well...lookinf forward to your next one...

    Hi Gus
Thank you very much for your comments. I did wonder about the background. I will definitely try what you have suggested and re-post.

    Hi Rob

You nailed this Wren, was pleasantly surprised to see such a capture, and though Gus's comment on subdueing background is a very valid suggestion I'll take it either way.

    Thanks for making my day.

Excellent capture Rob Best pose to catch the little guy

From a tech point of view would like the light to be more from your back to illuminate the bird but I know it might have been totally impractical. At the time of exposure if you could make several would take a step to the right to keep the lighter bg part form merging with head and improving the light angle. I normally make one good exposure then try to maneuver for improving !!! btw if its a bird that I already have I will pass up the decent image to go for the perfect one !!!
