This blue jay was obviously on a feeder, but the feeder doesn't dominate the image. I really liked the blue jay's expression with the sunflower seed in its bill. As a novice bird photographer I wonder how others feel about photos of birds in a feeder. Your comments would be appreciated.

Welcome, Tom. Good post. Beautiful BG, sharpness and colours - item in the bill really adds to the image. Attracting birds to feeders is a useful tool - placing natural perches nearby can help get images without the feeder in view. Adding the technical details with your post is a good idea to maximise feedback.
Tony capture my thoughts well. You have a good position of the head, catchlight in the eye and looks like good use of fill-flash so you are on your way.
When adding natural perches, start with one and get them to come to that one by having one feeder out with limited areas for them to approach the feeder from. Control how they can get to the feeder using the perch and then you know where they are going to land. Good luck.
All good suggestions above. I am not a big fan of birds on the feeders but WildBird Magazine buys them all the time....
