Great Blue Heron
One of the local G B Herons from Buttertubs marsh.
Canon 50D, 500mm f4.5 L lens, Tripod, ISO 100, 1/500sec @ f8, -2/3 EV, no crop, Mid-day, full sun.

The midday full sun "harsh" light is evident here. The shadows are quite dark but you couldn't expose them properly without blowing the whites. Perhaps reducing the contrast using an "inverse curves" could help this image. See link:

I would also desat the sky some.

In addition to Daniel's excellent comments, I would back away from the bird a little. The angle is quite steep.
I am going out on a limb here and say I like this dark graphic look to the bird with that deep blue sky.
