I like the idea here and the DOF on the posts is good. I would have liked to see the wren at a ROT power point and if was to turn his head, that would be the icing.
Exposure looks right on and the bird as tack sharp.
The DOF is nice on the fence, and you have good sharpness and detail in the image. It seems to me, though, that the large fence rather overwhelms the little wren.
Thanks everyone, for taking the time to look at this liitle guy. He and his mate were nesting in a hole under the top fence rail in a bulbous area of these iron posts.
I hear ya on the rule of thirds. But ya know, I cropped and recropped this one about 15 times until I just saw this one as the "one".
I was appreciating the progression of the depth of field on the posts and I guess I needed it to "share time" with the wren. I'm no pro, but I guess I did want to break from the rule of thirds etc standard for this one.
I agree on the head angle. I wish he appeared to to be looking at us a little better.
The others have already covered the assessment pretty well. I think it would have worked better of course with the head turn but also if the brighter area in the BG had not been present. It seems like a distraction to my eyes. I know what you mean about trying all sorts of crops. I played around with it for a couple of minutes and cropped a little from the bottom and added some canvas to the top. I'm not sure that I like it.....but I'm not sure that I don't either.
