Good job on the low perspective. You have a nice clean BG and a good pose on the part of your subject.
I made a few adjustments to your image.
1) Shadows and Highlights to bring out some of the BG and cut the shine on the armadillo.
2) Levels to adjust the tonality and contrast.
3) Hue/Saturation, I brought up the saturation just a bit.
Joel, I think you would need to cut down on the saturation some - looks too fleshy. I also liked the darker look in Dan's BG though I like the increased tonality of the diller.

Love that glint in the eye you capture and low was the way to go. Nice work.
Tough subject with the shiny plates, drab color, and those "wee, beady eyes*" but you did well. Nice detail good work on the low angle and nice detail.
