Default The Fox and his Small Friend

As Jo and I drove along the Gothic road above Crested Butte this past summer she noticed this small fox walking along the road. We drove past him and she was able to position herself so she had a clean background and waited for him to walk past.

Just as he reached the crest of the small hill he paused briefly before starting to move again. Jo was just able to capture a couple of images. Later when we processed the images we noticed a small butterfly above the foxes head in this one.

The image was shot that was taken at 400mm, 1/125 second, f5, ISO400. We would appreciate your thoughts on improvements. Thanks Jo and Phil

Beautiful capture, nice profile and habitat. A little more room at the bottom for anchor and virtual legs would have been nice, but if you were working with a fixed lens, I understand you wanted the little friend :)

Very nicely done. I'm working on a laptop, so not sure if it is a bit over-sharpened?

I agree with more room at the bottom if that was possible. I would have preferred a bit more of a head turn for better lighting on the face. If the butterfly was more to the right it would have balanced with the fox better. Minor things to keep an eye on.

The lighting is harsh and I think that detracts from the image. I recommend a reverse s-curve (see http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...ad.php?t=20434 for info). I also selected the eye and did a curves adjustment to reduce the shadow.

It would be best to handle the correction in the conversion process. If you are using PSCS and or ACR, do a recovery to get back the clipped areas and lower the contrast some before going into PSCS.

    Phil,

My ideas have already been expressed by Fabs and Robert. If you notice your image and the repost by Robert, you can see that the eye is visible in the repost. That makes a huge difference.

I would have loved a vertical. Do you have one?
    Cheers,
