This is an old favorite of mine. The image was made in October of 2005. I heard the Belted Kingfisher call and it seemed to be coming my way, so I readied myself and ended up with this image. I had no idea there would be two Kingfishers and a Crayfish. :)

2 sharp kingfishers, one with prey , one calling, lovely lighting - I can see why this has stood the test of time

This would be one of my favorites, too. Great poses and details.

Very nice image Jim! Kingfishers are never easy to capture in flight and you've got two with food!

I consider Kingfishers and Kestrals to be my "nemesis" birds. I've yet to get a satisfactory image (by my standards, anyway) of either. Needless to say, I'd probably give up a body part for an image like this. Great capture, and an A+ on this difficulty scale. These little guys are fast, and you sure got them good!

Great image, but one nit. I'd like to see a catchlight in the crawdads eyes.

But seriously folks, Am I the only one who cries for the crawfish?

Sure, akunamatada, circle of life and all that, but that bug had hopes, aspirations. Cut short in the prime of life. Sometimes I think I just Care Too Much.

Great action and getting interesting behaviour as well is always a huge bonus! Resolution seems slightly soft and I see some noise in the background, I assume you had to crop quite a bit (?)

This is truly a dream shot. Two kings interacting and with prey to boot.... Thanks for sharing.

    Chris,

This is about 40% of the frame. I guess the quality is ok, because I have sold it more than once for use in publications. These include a National Parks Service brocure and a coffe table book.

Spectacular, the prey in the left kingfishers mouth is a plus because it tells a reason for the chase. Great work.
