    Default Venice Rookery

I was wondering how people have been finding the Venice Rookery this year? Some years seem better than others.....

    Thanks Adams....

It seems the rookery is either hit or miss..For me way more miss in recent years. I will try my luck at Ft. DeSoto instead....

Is the rookery pretty much a morning shoot or is it good in the afternoon too?

Does anyone have an address of the audubon society that is there or some way to locate this. Have been there but it's been many years.

    Default Directions to Venice Rookery

From the North, take US 41 (Tamiami Trail) south 1/2 mile past Rt. 776. Turn right onto Annex Road at the Anderson Sarasota County Administration/Court House building. Follow Annex Road to rookery on right.

From the South, take US 41 (Tamiami Trail) north past Jacaranda Blvd. (Wal-Mart on south corner) Make left turn onto Annex Road just past FL State Police Barracks. Follow Annex Road to rookery on right.

Thanks for the info. Trying to squeeze as much in as we can before heading home Saturday. Sure hope this rain doesn't move in that they are talking about.

In my experience rain is not a bad thing at the Venice Rookery--as long as the birds are flying you can keep on shooting without fear of the harsh light or glare off the vegetation at the rookery.

I have tried to find it by googling Venice Area Audubon Society Rookery which is the actual name but cannot find an actual address which is why I provided the dirctions above. You may want to contact the Venice or Sarasota Audubon Society from their home pages and send them an e-mail or call them. I imagine they will have a better answer for you. The first time I went there, I stopped and asked directions in a parking lot, and found someone right away who knew. IT is a pretty famous spot in the area. Good luck.

From the South, take US 41 (Tamiami Trail) north past Jacaranda Blvd (way before you get to the Jacaranda Blvd traffic light stay in the left lane and stay there going through light..300 feet after the light you can make a left turn to all the way to the end of that little road ..there it is!

(Wal-Mart on south corner) Make left turn onto Annex Road just past FL State Police Barracks. Follow Annex Road to rookery on right.
