    Default White-winged Crossbill (male)

A fun Winter bird here in New England. Always busy using their bill to spread the conifer cones to get a seed. And then move on to another tree. This is from Salisbury Massachusetts on 1/19/09. 1dmk3 on 500 f4, hand held, iso 400, AIservo, f6.3, 1/1250, manual exp. - Bob

Like the snowy pine cones. The bird is placed a little too far to the left in the frame; I'd add some canvas on the left. Also the head turn is a bit much; more of a profile would be better IMO. I would sharpen the head feathers a little more. Thanks for posting!

Great find, setting and the snow adds to it. Aside from a wider crop, I would increase contrast a bit and wish the needles wouldn't cross the bird's plumage.

Thanks guys those are good suggestions. At times I crop tight to help show the detail on the subject dose not always work.
