A favorite sparrow of mine. Nice winter visitor

Self critique: head turn could be better but acceptable IMHO; perch is a little too large and and artistically uninspired; AOC is acceptable, but a little more DOF would have pulled in the tail. PP used gausian blur to smooth out the BG: created a mask of perch and used curves to enhance contrast. Could not bring myself to crop off the lower fork of perch. Like the colour of BG.

    Mark,

Nice composition. Agreed that background color compliments well.

Mark, very good self critic, I agree with you in most of your critics but I do not worry about DOF or the perch being too large. I have two other critics to add to your list: 1) the two tips of the perch are not very natural and 2) the image needs a litle touch of contrast or levels adjustment to pop up more. Terrific sharpness and very good BG. Thank you for posting the steps that you followed in processing this image :-)

I really like the composition and the background. Would really be a knock out image if the head were turned towards you or if you weren't shooting from behind the subject.

Like the BG, and the bird is sharp and nicely exposed. I agree with your self-assessment here Mark. The OOF tail feathers don't really bother me.
