Had to go bush-whacking to find this little cutie. Had major BG issues but hope the result is ok.

    50D, EF70-200mm + 1.4x @ 240mm, 1/200th @ f/5.6, Evaluative Metering @ EC 0 ISO200, converted from RAW with DPP, then off to PS CS3 for final presentation

Hi Kerry - cute all right. Nice eye conatct and good HA - BG is fine for me.

Would add some sharpening to the eye - just to give it that bit of Pop. Crop wise it felt a bit centred to me - cropped and sharpened the eye.

    Looking forward to more. :)

Dandy looking bird Kerry. Not sure, but it looks like a young one. Lots of nice detail and good eye. I might have lightened up the eye and around a bit, and bg looks fine to me. Good One, Dave

    Kerry,

This bird reminds me of a rough-looking character who has played his part in a street gang. :) Very nice capture, crop, HA, and the BG looks good to me. It looks like the bush-whacking paid off.

Thanks all, as always. Gus, I was tempted to clone out that branch also, but knowing that it is the source of the perch made is seem unnatural to me. Of course, if you didn't know that it makes total sense. Kinda funny... I do like the painting you did in the background.

Looks like you did a levels or curves adjustment too. The original does seem a bit dark upon applying "hindsight".

Hi Kerry The bird itself looks real good, just the added sharpening. Cropping wise I would go tighter like Lance posted.

With the bg is just personal preference regarding the clutter. I would suggest moving a foot or so at the time of exposure to avoid the merging branch with the beak. As far as cleaning the bg in its entirity like Gus did is just personal preference, nothing wrong with it. I like just blurring enough as if the image was made with a large aperture lens (2.8) and leave it at that.

Kerry if you check the new CS4 or LR 2.0 you will find amazing control of curves. Will be an expert in one session. Used to take years to be able to master. Worth looking into.
