Nice detail and good job on the branch removal. I like the antlers as well. The alert pose is excellent. Since you cropped from horizontal I wonder if it would look better with a bit more room on the left and less on the right?

    Steve,
I like the pose. BG is fine with me. You can take a little bit from the left, but the present crop is ok as well.

    Cheers,

Another vote for less room at right. Very nice pose and love the BG. As I get older, I'm enjoying habitats more :)

    Steve,

One spectacular image after another and always so sharp. Who says you can't get a sharp image from the 100-400mm Canon.

I like the crop and especially the room at the right - makes it look like he is walking out into the open from the hint of brush on the right edge. For that reason, I might be inclined to say a bit more on the right or clone out the few branches sticking in.

    Ed, Sabyasachi, and Fabs,
Thanks for the look, comments, and suggestion on the crop.

Thanks for the kind remarks Robert. Reading the critiques you provide on my images, as well as on others, has helped me improve quite a bit (at least to my eye :)). I think about a lot more things before I take the shot than I used to. I've found the moderators of this site to be very active and helpful. As for the 1-400L, it was the first Canon lens I bought and the one I'd keep if I only had to keep one.
Here's the original, untouched image. Because of the downward angle, branches, and dim lighting, I took the shot as a "documentary" for a little project I've been doing trying to identify the deer I see. I intended to just crop to the head for future reference if photographed later in the year.
