    Default Milkweed

I took a whole series of photos of this milkweed plant bursting into seed. I felt the subject was perfect for B&W. Any C&C are welcome.

    Olympus SP-550 UZ
    f5.0 @ 1/125, ISO 100, -0.3 EV
    Aperture priority mode
Processed in Photoshop CS2; curves adjustment, slight crop, and converted to sepia using channel mixer and a hue/saturation layer

    Hi Christopher,
I like the composition...I would like to see more room to the left side of the frame to get the entire plant in frame without clipping anything...you might want to tone down the whites on the blooms just a tad...and run a pass of noise reduction in the background...

I agree with Gus comments about more room on the left. But I like the whites as is. I would probably burn the dark grays on the bottom some to get them to black. I'd probably would have gone with higher f/stop to get the front/left weed a tad sharper. Otherwise, I love the shot. Well done.

I too would like to see more room on the left. Everything else is fine with me....

Beautifully composed and seen, Christopher. I feel the whole thing is a bit tight on both sides - I wouldn't mind seeing a little more room to include the entire plant.

As for the b&w conversion, I think you did a very nice job. I like the whites that bright because they look that bright in full color. I do think a little burning of some of the gray tones might add more interest as Michael mentioned. Overall, though, I think it's a stunning image.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I wish I hadn't clipped the left side of the plant, but I'll try my hand at adding some canvas to that side.

    Hi Christopher,
I agree that it needs a little canvas on the left and that the grays could do with a little burning but I do really love this. It has a whimsical quality about it which I find very appealing.
    Regards,
    Nicki

Okay, here it is with some canvas added to the left. Do you think I added enough?

I also burned the grays at the bottom and ran some noise reduction on the background.
