    Lady Jeni,
I like the composition as a close up pose...to answer your question, just crop into a pano format by adding more room to the left and right side of the frame...I like the colors and the sharp details...the background compliments and highlights your subject very well...good show...
By the way...the head angle is good...:p

You have an excellent composition with a very pleasing background, and exposure.

I like it as presented Its one of the few instances center looks good. Going for a pano as suggested by Gus is another alternative.

My biggest concern here is the light angle, the light is harsh on the breast area. Can also select the eye and darken the pupil. Excellent catch !!!

    Hi Jeni

Very pleasing capture. With these long side view birds I usually crop them in a Pano, however, I think your placement looks good.

    Great looking Sparrow.

    Thanks for sharing.

Jeni, I always seem to have the same problem cropping birds with that pose-I think you did well and I would have chosen that or pano either one is good. I like your Sparrow he has nice details and a lovely eye!!!

Interesting question about trying to use the "rule of thirds". One thing you might consider relates to the "rule of thirds" and hot spots. If you use imaginary lines (two vertical and two horizontal) to divide the image into thirds, the points where they intersect are known as "Hot Spots", and the eye is drawn to them. Placing an image element there will tend to emphasize it and help to define a point of interest. One other minor opinion: the large lettering, especially in high contrast , detract quite a bit from the image. I might try a smaller script like font, with lower contrast (maybe a somewhat lighter color than the frame itself). Hope I've been helpful ~Bill

    Jeni,

Sorry to hear about the op. :( Your BG is very nice, and I like the eye contact and near perfect side angled shot.
