Taken recently in Gabon, this ghost crab was too busy with food to be bothered with me (though all his colleagues took off in a hurry).

I like this image. The low angle has thrown the background completely out of focus and the image pops up. Nice action. The fly is a huge bonus. I would have like a bit more space on the right.

    Cheers,

    Per-Gunnar,

Nice capture showing this guy at work. I agree with Sabyasachi comments on the edges. Image is a bit flat so I downloaded it and reworked in PCSC3. I did:

    1) Levels adjustment for the white point (Hold ATL key down and slide white slider in until clipping occurs and back off) and black point (clipping in some channels so I used the black point dropper set at RGB = 13 and clicked on the dark part under the fish's belly.

    2) Curves adjustment with a mild s-curve.

    3) Hue/Saturation with Saturation at 3. Adjust it to suit your tastes.

Does look a tiny bit flat but a personal preference to be sure. I really like the way the eyes blend into the BG. The way he's holding the gill out of the way makes me think he's going deep for some sort of ghost crap delicacy hidden within.

Robert, thanks for the tips. I'm not really that competent with photoshop so very useful info

The repost makes it even better. Great angle, captured moment and details. I also find it a bit tight in the frame and wish for wider DOF.

I like the original, but Robert's reworking brings out the best in your photo. More DOF would have been nice, but you didn't have much light available.

Just my take on the editing. I agree the image is flat and needs some PP to bring out the photos potential. I also think the re-edit by Robert is over saturated and doesn't truely reflect the color of the crab. more DOF would help this image also. I would like to see the fish and the other fly in focus.

ETA: Figures Photobucket would resize it and ruin it. If you'd like the PSD file, let me know and I will e-mail it to you. It looks alot better than this resized one. Plus you'll be able to see the editing steps and and adjust them if you want to play with it for learning sake.

Thanks guys. I agree more DOF would have been great but as you can with my techs I had very little light to play with (sun was already down)

I do like the edits. David I would indeed appreciate a copy of the PSD. I wll send you a private message with my email address

    .
I agree that I am not pleased with the final over-saturated look on the one I posted. My version on my computer looked better but ended up looking over-saturated on BPN. That's when I went back in and edited the steps to include saturate to taste.
