Before I start posting images for processing, etc help/critique, I wondered about entering a contest afterwards with the image? What do people think?
Is it ethical to enter a contest with an image you have had help/guidance on processing/cropping etc in a forum such as this one? I am sure, privately, people get help from friends, etc with their images before entering them in contests. But what about such a semi-public widely-read forum?
Would you / do you post images for critique on BPN that you then enter a contest with? I guess this is not only a question about using the help you get, but also about the exposure the image gets.
I'm sure this is a naive question, but I am very new to contests and totally new to posting an image.
Lynn, I can't speak for everyone, but I post images to get feedback before I enter a contest all the time. The contests I enter are not MAJOR contests . (camera club only)

I haven't really been entering contests, so I haven't thought much about this. It's a interesting question.
Posting here is for education and critique. If you were in a photography course, and were receiving this kind of feedback from an instructor, couldn't you still submit photographs taken for the course to contests? I believe so. It's not like anyone but you is pressing the shutter button to create your images.
I suppose some of the advice-givers here could somehow, some way, turn up as judges in a contest you might enter a photo in. Maybe in THAT case, you would actually have received information from a JUDGE giving you advice on what they're looking for in a particular photo that you have entered. I guess that could be a problem. But you could also get that kind of insight just by reading what advice is given about other photos besides your own....
Great question Images posted in forums, this and others have won mayor prices including BBC wins.
I'm not aware of a contest that will limit the help you get. You do need to look at the rules and make sure yours comply. Some spell out the enhancements others are not clear and some require the original RAW image along with the worked entry !!!
