I spent a week photographing loons and I found it difficult to consistently get great exposure of both the highlight and shadow areas of the bird. I often opted to expose for shadow detail and to accept some blown highlights in the breast area. This is one of the few images where I was able to get both highlight and shadow detail.

Beautiful pose Ivan. I like the low angle and the look. It needs to be rotated CW and there is a green cast to the image as well.

Beautiful expression. I would love to have this kind of close-up with a loon.

    Hi Ivan,

Love the pose and water. I agree about the rotation and perhaps to run the image in NR software.

    Thanks!

Love the pose in this image and I agree with the previous comments and IMO I would like to see a little more room on the left. It appears tight to me. Thanks for sharing Ivan.

Great details and pose. Adding to the other comments, there is a slight sharpening halo on the neck and it is a bit tight in the frame for my taste.

Excellant photo Ivan, you have exposure perfect for both highlite and shadow, great detail, slight greenish hue on the neck is actually the colours of the neck feathers in certain light ,so is fine by me.Love it!!! I will keep trying for more pics this summer when the loons come north.

You certainly have achieved your aim here ivan - the exposure for highlights and shadow are near perfect - A lovely portrayal of this most attractive bird. No colour cast on my monitor. Can't suggest any improvement!!!
