    Default Bald Eagle

My first image upload. I'm not sure I have the sizing right. We'll see what it looks like anyway. As you can see it was a typical NE Iowa winter day, grey and cloudy for the most part behind the bird. Luckily there was a small amout of sun comind in from the other side.

Welcome, David. Light is difficult here but backlight is showing the bill well. Fill flash may have been a good idea to open up the shaded near side better. A lower angle to the bird (longer lens from further away to reduce elevation) may have been good. Was there any option of moving to the far side to get the sun behind you and avoid having the branch in front of the bird? Good use of a fine black frame to define the edges with the white BG.

I think the bird was too far for a fill flash to be effective.
Your not allowed to move much around the migratory birds. The resident birds tend to be more tolerant of people.

A Better Beamer can extend your flash range significantly. 200mm lens on a full frame sensor (5D) gave the impression that your working distance wasn't too far unless this is a significant crop.

Welcome to BPN, David! Very nice first post and good-looking specimen. I agree with Tony regarding fill flash and wish the branch were not crossing the bird's chest. Please send Alfred Forns or Chris Ober a PM with your name since we use full names. Keep them coming!

Significant crop is the key phrase LOL. This is a 987 x 1188 crop out of 2912 x 4368 image.
