Just received my adapter ring which fits my new Nikon TC to my camera and took a test on this Eurasian collared dove (Streptopelia decaocto) in a snowy tree. This bird was about 20 m away and 10 m up in a tree. Nonetheless, you are looking at a 50% crop (hence a little lack of detail and some noise reduction artifacting). Let me know what you think about the results! C&C on all aspects of the photo very welcome.
Panasonic DMC-FZ18, Leica 4.6-83 @ 83 mm (500mm DSLR equivalent) w. Nikon TC-E17ED 1.7 TC. Handheld, supporting arms on the window pane. ISO-100, F/8, 1/160 sec, aperture priority, pattern metering, EC 0., RAW.
PP in Silkypix and Corel Photopaint. 50 % crop, NR, sharpening, gaussian blur on BG, added contrast, decreased intensity, cloned out quite a number of OOF branches, selective contrast and brightness enhancement on the eye.
Hi Jerry,
I like the capture...you were shooting in harsh light at an angle, thats why your Dove is part in the light and part in the shadow...the eye looks a little soft...need to open up the eye a bit more to get the details out and selective sharpen...I like the perch, just a tad less from the bottom and also taking about 1/4 from the top to eliminated the negative space; thus concentrating more on your subject...I modified your composition to illustrate these points...see if this presents best to you...
Hi Gus, thanks for fiddling with the image! I refrained from further cropping, because then I would clip off the tail (as you did in the repost), but I agree that the tighter crop you present here gives a more powerful image. Great work on the eye!
I'm still working on some images where the dove was more evenly lit, I'll take your advice into account on them!
