The Wood Storks head may be ugly but I think it makes for great texture in this shot. The greenery he has just added some nice color. I guess he thought it wood look good in his nest too. Nikon D80 with 80-400 lens. F14, ISO 100, 400mm, exp -1. I took out some of the OOF greenery. Slightly cropped, nothing else. Your comments are greatly appreciated. This is my third post and some of your suggetions were things I had no idea how to do. It made me go into Adobe and figure out how. Thanks to all, this is a good learning forum.

Hi judy - intresting textures all right. Your exposure looks good, HA looks good as well - although would be better if it was not at such a steep angle. Like how you have included the contrasting greenery.

You have not mentioned what shutter speed you were using and I am a bit puzzled as to why you were at F14.
lOOKing forward to seeing more :)

Such incredible contrast in textures...I knew they looked crazy but have never seen one that close and with such great detail. Agree with Lance on the angle being too steep...But I am guessing that without wings you probably wouldn't have been able to get to eye level. Also agree on the F14 being a strange setting for the shot...you could have squeezed more sharpness at a larger aperture.
I do really like the overall capture though.

    Hi Judy,
I like the habitat pose, would have liked to have seen a downward tilt of the head looking at you...The contrast between the blue sky and the green branch makes this image pop out...You have sharp details and a good color rendition...and your whites are in check...congratulations...looking forward to the next one...

Rob, your right about needing wings. I tried to get back as far as possible to get more level. The f14 was my mistake for not changing. Sometimes in my exuberance to get the shot I forget to change settings. Lance, the shutter speed was 1/200. I still have alot to learn as to the workings of my camera and most of Photoshop is still a mystery but this forum is really heping me alot. Thanks again to all.

Great details and exposure looks dead on. Background is very good also.
