This is a picture from oktober 2008, I especially like the backgroundcolors (same day as my Great Spotted Woodpecker from a while ago)

Great details, pose and BG. I wish there were a few more details in the shadows.

you mean in the shadow in the hole? there was more detail, but I made it a bit darker (maybe to dark).

    thanks for your comment Axel.

Yes, I meant the hole but maybe also the part of the plumage that is not sunlit. It looks good as it is but I think it would make it even better.

As you mentionned, the background is lovely. You could try to open the shadows by usint shadow/highlight tool in photoshop. These little fellow being so fragile, strong contrasts or harsh shadows is seldom to their advantage.

Hi Lesley, lovely image. I adore the BG colors and I also like the perch very much. I'm wondering how you got this close. Did you use a lot of zoom, was it cropped significantly or did you just get in close? Could you post the specs on this image?

    thanks for your commets.

    @ Jerry: photo is made from a hide and I used a 500mm + 1.4 converter and a 30D (so that will be 1120mm :-) and I cropped a little.
