Hi Dave - cool looking birds.
I would crop some of the top off - turn it into more of a pano - lots of dead space up there with no real intrest.
Your blacks are a bit blocked (No detail) - what exposure mode did you use?
Looking forward to seeing more :)

The composition of the three birds is very nice, pretty good sharpness on all three, and I like them bobbing in the rolling waves.
I agree with Lance about both the crop and the image is a tad dark. You might try increasing the exposure and/or adding a bit of fill light. On my monitor there is a halo around the scoters, particularly the most rear one.
    Cheers

Thanks for comments. I see what you mean by the crop, brings more focus on the birds. I had left it as "habitat". I had fooled a bit with bringing out more detail in the black birds, but at a cost of more noise... and good point Gail about the halo. Not sure if that is from sharpening. I have also seen mentioned that over use of the clarity slider in ACR may intorduce a halo. Oh well, it was large crop so not too disappointed.

i dont think +1 was enough in this situation. as presented, i do agree that a crop off the top would help. but after reading that it was a large crop, wondering what it would look like as more of a habitat shot????

    Hi Dave,
I like the capture; I only wish that the two ducks in front were not merging...The blacks I opened up for a little more details selective sharpened the eyes and cropped into a pano, eliminating the negative space on top... I increased saturation and contrast...see if it presents well to you...

Thanks Gus, I like the pano. Habitat is self explanatory so no sense in over doing it. Merging is not something I had thought about, and it has come up a couple times in the past few days. Thanks for pointing that out.

I pretty much agree with what's said. But, anybody other than me think there should also be some rotation adjustment ? :)

Great composition and well exposed image. Do like the pano effect after Gus's re post
