    Default Two shadows

Today I caught this avocet casting two shadows, while (I think) it was looking at me. I toned down the red in the soil and toned up the blue in the water. I cropped pretty heavily. And I decided centering the image might work here. Your comments please . . .

Hi wendell - lovely reflection - on my screen there looks to be a couple of hot spots in the plumage - you could try a multiply layer in P.S. to reduce. The BG is not all that inviting and would have been better at a lower angle - with a reflection that strong and gorgeous blue water - I would have tried just shooting the reflection (if possible) and then flipping it over and viola.

    Hi Wendell,
The bird is dead center in frame, would need to off set him; the whites are at a hot 255, the capture angle is steep. Good advise given by Mr. Peters in reference to the reflection. An alternative crop would be a tight pano, eliminating the reflection, and taking 1/4 from the top if you want to leave the bird in the center...I'm afraid this one does not do it for me. I will wait for your next capture...:D:cool:

Hi Wendell, Very interesting photo. Not often you can get three images of same bird at the same time. My preference would have been to have the bird off set rather than in centre and not sure about the changes in the colours. I suppose if you went lower before taking photo you may have lost some/all of reflection or shadow, not sure. Looking forward to more Avocets. Dave

Very interesting criticism -- much appreciated!! Looks like I flunked on this one . . . down but not out. Tomorrow will be a better day . . .

    Hi Wendell,
Don't feel disappointed; this is your learning curve...I have flunked many a time, that I care to remember...:D Practice makes better...my recommendation is to track the sun, look at the light that you have to work with and remember that the light is always changing. Don't be shy to compensate on the exposure...you are using shutter priority; try using aperture priority. You could have dialed in a -0.7 or a -0.3EV on the whites...as far as the capture angle goes; well yes, it is a bit steep, I don't know if you could have gone any lower, only you can answer that...:) I'm looking forward to your next capture...

Gus, I did not mean to indicate despondency. I honestly appreciate the criticism and know I have a long way to go. Please, bring it on . . . honest critique is what I "signed up" for.
