    Default Bosque Harrier

I just got back from Bosque del Apache, where I was able to test out my Mark III sub-mirror fix. I did most of my photography handheld, and I'm overall quite pleased with the results. Here's a Northern Harrier.

    Canon 1D Mark III, 500mm f/4 + 1.4x, f/10, 1/1250, ISO 400, -1/3, no flash, handheld

Glad to see another positive for the Mk3.
This is a lovely image with what looks like the bird giving you a sly look.

    Well done :)

Cool image, Doug! Nice bird and bg. The look your way really makes the image. The change in bg near the top of the frame is slightly distracting. Better light would have taken this to another level. I downloaded your image, cloned out the top bg, lightened it up a bit with the SH tool, and then blurred the bg a bit. I thought about cropping a bit off the top, butdecided to leave it. What do you think?

I like it better Jim! The lighting could have been better, but I was mainly concerned with the focus, which looks pretty good. Not up to your standards, but getting there slowly but surely. Thanks for the input.

Hope you don't mine but I also edited your wonderful photo of the Harrier, Doug. I used a Quick Mask to select the inside of the bird, then created a Contrast/Brightness Adjustment Layer using this selection. I brightened it by 37 and added 6 Contrast. I then used this same selection to sharpen the bird further and inverted the selection and ran some NR on the BG. Oh yeah, I also Saturated a tad....

Both reposts are really interesting in their own way. I have a hard time making up my mind. :)

Really nice image. I would take a bit off the top and left. I would say something in between the two versions would be ideal.

Nice image. It's good to hear and see positive results with the sub mirror fix on the mark III. I am waiting patiently for my waybill.
