Motif: Signs – “Pets of Snowmass Village”

    Note:
Circa 2000. These signs are very common around the Village of Snowmass in Snowmass Mountain, Colorado; this particular one was posted on the side entrance to one of the local restaurants, near the ski lift.

This was taken early morning around 6:00 a.m. when the restaurant was getting ready to open for the day. Adriana would not come out of the room early morning or late at night; for fear of running into these over sized teddy bears, which were just big babies looking for a snack…Mama bear was not too far along…actually I started naming them; and I can tell you from personal experience; they love Snickers chocolate bars…

The image was painted with a Nikon F100, 35mm film camera, using a Nikkor 50mm f/1.4D AF lens. The negative was scanned into digital jpeg format.

    Comments greatly appreciated...

Interesting sign and interesting story Gus. There were a couple b&e's by bears on the north side of the city, up against the mountains. One lady got scratched up pretty bad. Both bears were put down on the spot. Too many bears, not enough food, so they come into the city looking for anything laying around, pet food, garbage, compost piles.
Like the colours, green and brown, outdoorsy. Good one Gus,
    Dave

    Hi Dave,
These were black bear cubs and perhaps a little bit bigger. I believe the problem at hand back then in the village, was that people left food out at night to feed them and also they would go through the garbage containers...in the two week span that we were there, we never saw any large bears...also they were usually in the parking lots at night...they would keep their distance...:D:cool:

    Nice sign to have:eek:

Few years back we had a black bear that they darted 2 or 3 times and moved him back to the southern part of the state, kept showing up in downtown Zanesville. Then bear came back and was headed for downtown Columbus, moving though pretty populated areas. My WL officer, great guy BTW, got the call to shoot him. WOW some went postal..Nothing more than a big friendly raccoon..Sure thing. Just looking for a mate..In Columbus??? Got really ugly for awhile.
