Default Snail Kite / no snails

In the past month I have been out on my boat 9 times looking for these kites with snails. I find plenty flying around in search of but seldom see them come up with one. The encouraging part I guess is there does seem to be some snail eggs affixed to the reeds. Maybe it's slim pickings during the winter and they feast in the spring.

    Mike,

The article mentions Lake Toho and I could not agree more. I was camping nearby that lake last year and the amount of air boats are incredible. I truly believe the disturb they Kites which is sad because is one of the best places to see them.

You did well capturing the bird in flight with nice light. I would remove the noise. Did you get one with the wings up?

    Thank you for sharing.

Good sharpness on the plane of the eye and talons. Would prefer a little separation between the bill and the far wing. A version with the wings at the top of the stroke may show off the more interesting underwing detail in the nice light.

I like this nice, close bird in flight capture indeed. If I may add one more comment to the other fellows above, I find the white patch on the tail blends in too well with the sky, with which there's probably nothing you could have done anyway, it just looks as if a bit of the tail were missing. :)

    Wonderful otherwise.

Good wing position and eye contact and I agree that wing/beak separation would be good. I think there are some clone marks underneath the wing.
