I wanted to get the Scrub Jay in its habitat. As many of you are from Florida you will know it is endemic to the area and has very specific habitat requirements that it relies upon to continue breeding and increasing the dwindling population. I am still not sure about a number of things on the composition. I tried it with more room to the front but the bird became too central in the frame and it lost the balance. The tail is so long in the shot and I didn't want to cut it off!!
Anyway...enough babling..see what you think and please, C & C is extremely welcome and don't go easy, I want to learn.
    Thank you for looking.

Boy he is pretty Rob! Love the colors, habitat and eye contact. Normally I would say wish there was more on the right but I thing the foliage on the left balances it all nicely.

If I was going to do one thing it would be remove the bit of light brown twig running from the bird to the foliage on the left.

    Really pretty image!!!

    Hi Rob,
I like the composition very much...the bird is in habitat...it is what it is...:)I like the head angle and sharp eye contact...the only correction I made was to tame down the background a tad by cloning out all of the vertical oof bands in the background which was detracting from your subject...good show...:D:cool:

Gus...thank you for the re-post...as usual you have done an awesome job...the BG is much less distracting now...it is incredible how different the image looks when changing a background. It really makes me realize just how much our eyes are capable of and how it is so important to make their job easier and point them in the right direction.
    Thank you.

    Hi Nonda
good spot on that twig...now you have pointed it out it is all I can see!! I will definitely remove that. It is funny how much you can miss after looking at an image for too long.
    Thank you.

Good Looking bird Rob. Nice colours, detail and eye contact. Interesting story about them also. I like Gus's repost and Nonda's suggestion about the twig. I am not sure it would help or not, my only suggestion if you felt more room in front was needed would be to try and qm or clone out the clumps of leaves and twig in front of bird for appearance of more room. Not sure?

A lovely detailed shot and I love what Gus has done with the background. I'm not sure about the colours though. Gus's re-post seems to me to be a bit brighter and this has affected the colours. Or am I imagining things?

    Cheers.

Nice shot Rob, like the repost by Gus, and the twig mentioned by Nonda. Like the greenery surounding the bird. Am wondering if a bit should come off the top?? Anyways nice and sharp and never seen this bird before.
