Shot yesterday-we had wind gusts up to 40 miles -the pond looked like the ocean! Wind chill factor 17 degrees! If I got a great shot I wouldn't care-but these guys are so quick to scoot to center of pond! :p Harold where and when are they in Florida(would be nice to shoot them w/o clumsy down jacket ,gloves ,hat scarf,etc...)

Nice shot of a beautiful specimen Denise! He looks like he's on an ocean! I attempted to rotate the bird level, but then the water was way off. Good sharpness and exp, maybe a little tighter crop, but really, I like the water/habitat too.

Ahaa Denise you get these guys the same time I do, when it is B-TT cold, I feel for ya! As well as Mergs going just far enough to be out of range, and doing it quickly.

I like your merg! Sharp 'in range' good job!

Really beautiful !!! Love the tonal range, great shadow detail and whites is check.

Would take a little of the top and work on the eye. These guys always have a strange looking eye, they all have it. Just select the eye and darken the pupil, will appear sharper. Big Congrats on this one !!!!

Beautiful image, Denise...the water adds so much interest! I know what you mean about shooting in wind chill, though...that's why I'm home cooking up a storm today. :D;):D

I agree with Alfred about darkening the eye a bit and maybe bringing the crop in closer but, really, well done overall!

    Hi Lady Denise,
I like your composition...agree on the eye factor...also needs about 0.50 CCW rotation to level him off, to stop him from swimming up hill...:) I adjusted your mid-tones and lightened them up a tad, also opened the blacks a little to bring out more details, and yes, selective sharpened the eye and made it a tad darker...see if this presents well to you...congrats on the capture...

Really nice Denice. Good for you. tough bird to sneak up on no matter the weather. I like the details in the whites. Repost looks good. Dave

A super shot of a great looking bird Denise. I like the original as presented. And I empathise about the trials of photography whilst desperately trying to keep warm. We've had some bitter weather recently.

    Cheers.

Good exposure and details Denise. These birds are so neat looking!!! Always think they have mousse in their hair. Like the repost by Gus, but might be tempted to take more off the top if you are not running short on pixels:)
