    Default Blue Bird on white

Curious. Is this an intesting shot or just a bad photograph? I took this shot against a cloudy but very bright sky, exposed for the bird. I think the cloudiness helped the colors. Sky adjusted to white in PS. It has a surreal quality to me and I'm wondering if anyone else sees that or do they just see bad picture. Comments welcome.

    Hi JB,
My amatuer opinion, not a shot for the purists, but workable and open to some of your different interpretations as an artist. That's where I'd take it.

I like your idea a lot and I love this kind of images but I think that the processing job is not the best for this image because it looks like the result is a seriously overexposed image and I am sure that you were looking for a high key image. In a High key image, like in a overexposed image, the BG is mostly or totally whithe, but in a high key image the subject is rendered with no oversaturation. In this image the sky is white but the edges of the bird has no details or are overexposed. If the original image is a RAW file you have the chance to obtain a better result than this. Try to reprocess the image saving the bird´s edges and I think that you will have a much better result.
Neat eye contact, good pose and nice composition, BTW :-)

Thanks Juan, I believe the problem lies mostly in the processing. I'll to reworking the original without hitting the "auto" buttons in PS.

I like the idea and eye contact but agree with Juan's observations. You could try to decrease the saturation a few points.

Thanks Axle for the critique, but further examination sends the original to the trash bin. too overexposed to save.

I played around with your image...what do you think, Orton effect, then added light blue to background...worked on this image at work...only Photoshop 6..using CS4 at home this would be easier..and probably a bit better

This seems to work much better. I see that besides the background you've improved the overexposure near the top of the head. Beautiful image!
