    Default Neotropical Cormorant Portrait

I created this portrait of a Neotropical Cormorant near Varadero Cuba. After uploading the image I noticed that the tip of the bill looked strange. It almost appears as if there is a semi-transparent soft plastic sheath on the bill. The bird had no trouble feeding but could it be older parts of the bill shedding?

Also do you think that I should do some selective sharpening of the eye?

Canon EOS 40D, Sigma 50-500mm at 500mm Handheld. 1/1600 seconds, F8, ISO 320, Flash - Flash fired, Compulsory flash mode. Image cropped to about 80% of full frame.

Stephen thi is a very simple but efective composition. I like the light, the OOF BG and the fantastic details of the bird (specially that green emerald beautiful eye). It clearly needs another round of noise reduction in the BG. Well done

Gracias Juan. Of course you're right about the noise. I'm disappointed in myself for not noticing the noise before I posted it. Here it is again after an application of neat image. Hopefully it's an improvement.

Yep, noise looks better. Nice and sharp, with lovely detail.

The repost is an improvement of an already great portrait. I like the light and details but can't answer your question.

Really like your repost Stephen. BEautiful portrait with wonderful eye contact and excellent color and detail. The BG and crop are well done. Congrats on a fine image and thanks for posting.

Stephen, nice exposure and sharpness. As for sharpening the eye more...I think it looks good but I would definitely darken the pupil (but keep the catchlight).

Thank you Stuart, Axel, Judy and Dan. I'm not quite sure why I constantly get so much BG noise when I resize. Perhaps I need to look at my processing steps and software.
