    Royal Terns always make great subjects to practice flight photography. At Fort De Soto they are so comfortable with people they will usually land close enough to fill the frame with a straight 500 and a full frame camera.

    Nikon D700, Nikkor 500mm f/4G ED VR, 1/1600 @ 5.6
    ISO: 400, Mongoose 3.5A and Gitzo CF tripod

    Robert lovely light and exposure on this bird. The wings look like they belong on an angle.

    I'm assuming that the horizontal line just touching the tip of the tail is possibly a wave crest?

    Yes the line is a small wave and the bird is landing right at the water's edge.

    Excellent exposure on the whites, and nice and sharp. I like the pastel colours of the BG. Great image.
