I have a couple of shots in different poses. So I thought I would start with this one to see what everyone thought.
I am a little annoyed that the DOF is not slightly deeper. I didn't notice on the LCD when I took it. I would have very much liked to have all the plumage in focus. I will certainly be back next year for better DOF...I just hope the scrub jays hang on in there. Anyway see what you think.

Very well composed Rob,
I like the sharp details and color rendition on the bird...I like the sharp eye...agree with Doctor Davis on the head angle...good show...looking forward to your next one...
Another vote for the the dof being mighty fine Just he mentioned head angle and it will appear even better, makes the bill tip even with eyeballs !! btw at that close range the dof at 5.6 in minimal I figured on a few posts down for the same focal length at f 22.0 and it was less than half an inch !
I love your composition on this one, Rob...just the right amount of negative space around the bird. DOF is fine by me, too. That little bit of blur looks like the feathers are being blown about...
Another super clear shot from the D300, doesn't suprise me when I see a good exposed capture to read it's the D300.
You made the Scrub Jay beautiuful. I'm sure they'll be around your next trip. They were the only birds showing up at the 5000' mark in Madera Canyon yesterday.
