Default Hard Cases for Airline check-in + Camera Equipment

    Hello All,
Again I'm leaving the country soon to travel to Guetamala. The problem lies with the airline. Carry on is limites to 20lbs. So I'm looking for a hard shell lockable camera case that can be checked, and handle cargo storage.
Does anyone have any idea as to the type of case that can hold the rest of my lenses, flashes, ect.ect...

    Thanks in Advance
    Norm

I put all my camera bodies and lenses in my carry on luggage and/or on my person and do not put them in checked luggage. My carry on luggage is a Think Tank, Airport Ultralight bag which is designed to fit into the hard shell Storm case iM 2500, plus a Think Tank Urban Disguise bag. The later is to hold my laptop, some lenses and back up hard drives (which I also do not put in checked luggage) The only time a potential problem has arisen is on US regional jets when sometimes the Storm Case has to be valet checked. Even then if I take the Ultralight bag out of the Storm case I can usually take it on board and then I only valet check the empty Storm case. My carry on luggage always exceeds 20lbs and I have never been stopped because of weight, I am sometimes stopped to check the size using the measuring gauge, but the Storm case is designed to fit so it is not a problem.

Coming from the UK where airline rules are strictly enforced compared to most other countries I am very careful as to what I do.

I also use the Think Tank Ultralite along with the Pelican 1510 and do something similar to Michael if there is a problem while flying. On smaller planes, I do not mind putting the Pelican 1510 along with the TTU holding my gear into the baggage compartment if required.

For smaller planes you will not have a problem checking the Think Tank at the gate. Done lots of times without a problem.

The Pelican cases are great but the weight with gear is enormous !!!

    Default Carry on VS Check-in

Thanks to all that responded to my questions. I should expound alittle on this particular scenario. I'm flying TACA airlines from Miami to Guatemala. This particular airline has the 20lb carry on limit. Usually when I travel all my hear fits into my Lowe-Pro backpack which then weights approximately 35 - 40 lbs.
Hince the conversation regarding what type of secure camera case to use for check-in for plane trips..

    Thanks again.

I have not done it going overseas but do going within the US. I ship my camera gear to the hotel I will be staying at by way of FedEx or UPS.
