This Snail Kite was photographed on West Lake Toho the other day on Jim Neiger's boat. We had way too much fog till 10am but all had a great time. What a crew: Jo Van Os, Wayne Lynch, Linda Robbins, Joe's sister-in-law, and Kissimmee Jimmy.

Canon 400mmm f/4 IS DO lens handheld with the EOS-1D MIII. ISO 400. Manual mode: 1/1250 at f/8 (via histogram check).

Don't be shy. All commemts welcome. I am here to learn too.

Excellent light on the head - looks to have a pretty full crop (the kite , not the image:D) May be able to bring a bit more detail into the shadows but not sure on this as I am am on a horrible uncalibrated monitor at work. I like the sky and cloud detail in the BG.

Great gliding pose and stare. This makes me really envious. I would love to see this species sometime. Maybe some lightening of the underwings?

That crop is full of snail. I did not want to go any further with the SH/H on the underwings.. Have a great time Doug. Hope that you do not get the fog.

Sweet opportunity very well used. Watch out for the sharpening halo (bill and chest area);)

Excellent light, and so sharp Artie. Love the gliding posture captured here. Superb image.
