I was out to the local sanctuary, Reifel, today. All the ponds are frozen over and local residents are not used to that. There are several SH Cranes that live here year round and easy to get close.

Dave, very nice. I like the tight crop and shallow DOF. The eye contact is excellent! Very clean image for ISO800, and that is one thing I love about the 50D.

i like the compo and you got some nice detail in the eyes even though i think the focus point was on the red in the front? i was wondering what blowing out the bg would do for it. just a thought. would definitely get more separation.

    nice one, leroy!!

Love the crop and feel !!! Excellent image Dave !!!

.... sharp eye Harold ... good point on the point of focus does seem to be on the red, best to go after the eye !!!

Harold I think you are right about where fp is. I remember clicking on the eye a couple times before releasing the shutter. DOF is about 1/2" so if on eye would expect some detail behind eye and none there. Could also be ff'n a bit. Also I did a couple quick looks at dark and lighter bg's and you are right, more separation and would have looked nicer. Not sure quite how to do that easily with out mucking up the feathers...
Kerry, I am very happy witht he 50D. Also I ran Topaz Denoise right after converting from RAW.
    Thanks for looking.
    Dave
