    Hi Brian,

I rather like your bird, but I think that as presented, it's too small in the frame I took the liberty of cropping so as to put the bird in a sweet spot. I think this also makes the BG look better. Also added some curve adjustments. Hope you like it.

    Congrats on the new camera!!

    Cheers,

    Bruce

Yes I do believe that it is a fly catcher, not sure on the specific species though.
    Thanks for the comment :)

The light lines in the background are distracting. The repost looks better (composition), but is probably cropped too much. This may work better as a pano. It's a Say's phoebe, a type of flycatcher.

    Hi,

I agree with Bruce and Dan's comments, but the increased crop introduces more noise, especially in the green area below the bird - which is, by the way, a Say's Phoebe - indeed a type of Flycatcher and common in open countryside in the western US.

    Hi Brian,

I am moving your post to Eager to Learn where you can get more of the help that you need.

Congrats on the new lens but you need to get a lot closer. Begging to differ with Raymond, this image has many, many problems inlcuding the two mentioned above. Here are a few more:

Distracting twig on the bird's body and a rather distracting BKGR.

Poor head angle; teh birds head is turned away from you.

In addition to the white lines there are other uneven areas in the BKGR that are distracting.

With experience, you will learn to choose better situations. Good luck.
