Here is another image of a bird which is built for effectiveness, rather than flamboyant beauty. (figured go with a more positive title than "Are you tasty?" or worse lol)
The beak looks too bright, but that is how bright white it was.
I have a series of photos from a rehabilitation center. This bird was not on my list of "must sees". But it is one of the most beloved of the rehabber who could not understand why I wouldn't want to photo this girl. So of course I did.
I would appreciate your thoughts. This was the first time out with this new lens.
Hi Cheryl,
did you use a flash or a reflector to get this photograph. The lighting looks perfect, many of my pictures of darker coloured birds seem to be black without much detail. Ah I see you have an EC of -1 that will really help to bring out the detail in dark feathers.
If this photo is any indication it looks like your new lens is a keeper.
I think that I would crop in a bit tighter on his head.
I am looking forward to seeing some of the other birds from the rehab center.
Clive
Clive, no flash. And the snow on the ground acted as a reflector. The trouble with this though, is that vultures do _not_ like facing into the sun. So had to be quick.
Nonda, what is TV? And I have already toned down the beak. lol. It started looking kind of funky past this point.
duhhh-well smack myself on the forehead moment. TV= Turkey Vulture. lol (I think I'll blame it on being so sick this morning....lol think that will work?? wouldn't you know it. first thing I do when able to get vertical, is to go check BPN. oh yea.
That beak is why I had to keep underexposing the image, "you would even say it glowed". lol
oh good, Harold. because it is already a heavy crop. With this lens being only up to 50mm, I had to get close. This was taken as close as this TV was comfortable. In order to crop out its injured wing, I probably cropped away 75% of the image. I did want to maintain something of its size too. i think perhaps a bit more sky above would help balance the image. what do you think?
Good looking girl and do like the alternate tittle !!!
Do like the suggestion of a tighter crop (in camera) and not from below Such a beautiful face you want to show off !!! Locally we can get within touching distance of the BV, the TVs seem to stay further away ... four of five feet :)
Alfred, a higher angle more like this? I wish I had all of the wing tip, but I don't. She suddenly spread her wings, just showing off I suppose. Or perhaps wanting a hug???? you first! lol
Hi Cheryl,
I like the first image as presented...you have good color rendition and sharp details with a sharp eye...my only suggestion would be to tone down the hot bill; its running at 244...other than this, good show...
