    Hi,
Sometimes when I am out looking for birds or landscapes to shoot I find other interesting subjects, like this Waterlily. This was taken in the Terra Cotta conservation area in late July.

Shoot with a Nikon D200, 70-300VR lens at 300mm, F/8, 1/250s, ISO 100, No tripod and no flash.
I wish that I had found a Lily without the dead leave beside it. Originally I was going to crop it out. What do you think?

I like your waterlily, I cloned and re-cropped and added canvas, did the work on my lap-top so I'm sure that you could do a more precise clean-up, you did well W/O tripod and I like the angle of your lily . could take a little off top here

    Hi Clive,
I like the base image..the whites seem a little on the hot side, need to tone it down...Denise's repost improves it 100%...I would take about half from the top on the second repost to eliminate some more of the negative space. I would crop half way from the top edge to just where the Lilly pad begins...

Hi Clive the original is well composed with the flower in excellent position in frame might lower a tad. Good exposure and sharpness !!!

Love the crop and PS work by Denise Cleans up the image and looks elegant Its good to take time and come up with alternate compositions.

Hi Clive, Nice photo. I like your idea of doing some "landscapes" while birding. I share your feeling about the dead leaf and Denise repost does take care of it nicely. I just feel I need to move to the right to look into the lily more which would take out some of the flower profile. Good one.

    Hi Denise,
I have just spent ten minutes with my mouse rolling down and rolling up to see the changes you have made. It is as if you can see it as I thought it was when I took the picture. I am on lunch at work and I can't try and do it now. I will have to wait until I get home tonight. This is great way to learn. Thank you.

Gus thanks for the comments, Denise did a great job adjusting the photo.

Alfred, Thank you, I needed to hear that. I have been hesitant to change or adjust my photographs beyond a little cropping, or colour balance.

Dave I wished I could have changed the angle a bit. But I was on a boardwalk at the time and it would have been a very wet experience to move and get that angle. :)

    Take care,
    Clive

hi clive. just a passing thought. if you could have moved to the right to get in front of the lily, you may have been able to make denise's composition without the dead leaf, but in a horizontal/landscape composition and have it full frame without the crop. otherwise, nice job seeing it while shooting birds!! and denise's reposts works great!!
