    Default Canon GPS

I've had an query from a work colleague about recording GPS position when photographs are taken. Does anyone know of an add-on that would allow this functionality with the Canon 1D or xxD series of cameras? I assume the way these things work is to record latitude and longitude in the EXIF data for each image?

    John,

I believe the wireless transmitter for the 1D Mk3 and 1Ds Mk3 is capable as I do recall seeing it attached to a Garmin 76Csx in the bumpf somewhere along the line.

Here's a DIY version. It's for Nikon in the article but might easily be changed for Canon.

Thanks to all. Having reviewed the options it seems that the simplest approach if you already have a GPS is to use software in post-processing to take GPS track data and match up to the appropriate images, based on clock settings in GPS and camera. I found some nice, free software that does this on Mac (I'm sure Windows users have options too): http://www.earlyinnovations.com/
