    Default Grande Tours are Grand!

This White Pelican was photographed after sunset on a Grande Tours pontoon boat trip with the soon-to-be-sold Canon 600mm f/4 L IS lens and the EOS-1D MIII body. ISO 1000. Evaluative metering +1 2/3 stops: 1/15 sec. at f/4.5 in Tv mode (best for complete control of blur speed). Wimberley tripod and Gitzo CF 3530 LS.

Visit http://www.grandetours.com/photography.htm to learn more or to book a sunset cruise for yourself or a small group of photographers. After a morning at the Venice Rookery, an afternoon on Gasparilla Bay with the White Pelicans is a perfect fit.

Very Pterodactyl-like. Love the warm bill and feet against the streaked grey BG. Wing motion well captured. may have looked better if the bird hadn't passed your position.

While I always enjoy your blurred creations, somehow the head being sharp and the entire remainer of the body in blur seems to be too much of a sense of confusion and makes the image fight itself.

My guess is that nobody will agree with me, but that's what my eyes are telling me.

Really like the action captured in this image Artie and the blur. It is sharp where it should be but would like to have seen this captured a tad sooner. The lines in the water make for a nice addition of detail in this image.

    Hi Arthur
It looks as though it is flying over an impossibly large sheet of silk...I have just one question for you and it is not about how beautiful the image is (I am not quite at the stage where I can see faults/improvements in an Arthur Morris shot!!)...it is about your camera settings. Sorry. I just wondered what the Tv setting is. I have a Nikon D300 and there aren't any T's or v's. I have been trying to do these blur shots for a while now and they always end up looking as though someone has smeared something across my lens.

Tv is Canon-speak for Shutter priority (Time value) - S on your D200, Rob

Very cool pan blur Artie! Love the colours, lines in the BG and wingblur captured. Too bad the pelican was flying away from you or giving you a bit more headturn as IMHO that would have made this perfect. Otherwise a splendid panblur shot!

I don't really mind the pelican flying away from you Artie....very well executed panblure. However....I'd love to see this at shorter focallenght so that the pelican has more space to fly into.

I like it Artie but I miss more additional room at the right. The color orange of the skin balances very well with the white/gray of the BG.

Thank you Tony. That is very useful to know. I have now seen it crop up in a lot of places. I always thought the person had put a T instead of the A until I saw Arthur Morris use it.

Yes, Tv is "S" in Nikon and gives you the best control of blur speeds. I actually cropped this from the back as I did not pan fast enough. And yes, the eye is remarkably sharp for 1/15 sec. but I like it. With the patterns in the water I did not feel comfortable adding canvas right....
