    Default landing gear down!

taken this past weekend in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. maybe a first year great black backed? i could be wrong here.

    shot from a vehicle with a D300, 300mm f4, and 1.7X converter using 9 point dynamic focus.

    manual mode
    ISO 500
    f9
    1/400th sec

in post i had to use quick masks to clone out three gull heads on the lower portion of the image. i contemplated cropping vertically at 5X7 but decided in the end to go with a square crop.

    thanks all!

I would move the bird to the right just a bit and probably go with a rectangular/vertical crop. I like the wing position and the dangling feet. I just wish we had a bit more eye contact.

I like the pose and agree with Doug's crop suggestion and wish there were a bit less wing blur.

I like the posture too. Take a bit off the right, add to the bottom and you have the perfect crop, as suggested above. Still, well captured Scott.
