    This guy showed up at our feeders the other day. The cool winter weather is driving them out of the mountains.
    Canon 50D + 500mm f/4.0 + 1.4 ext.
    1/50 s. @ f/5.6 + 1/3 EV, ISO 1600

    Great pose and nice to have him on a feeder. I find the contrast extremely high, maybe due to the light and post processing combination.
    A reverse curve (how to in the Edu Resouce Forum) will help.

    Beautiful bird and good head angle. I would crop a bit off the left to get him out of the center and agree with the suggestions Fabs made. The head looks a bit soft on my monitor.

    Thanks for the ideas. I probably boosted the contrast too much in the post processing...
